The tower on the Yarra, read floor by floor

Crown Towers is the five-star hotel of the Crown Melbourne complex, on the south bank of the Yarra at 8 Whiteman Street. This guide sets out what Crown publishes about each floor, each room and each facility — and marks plainly where it publishes nothing.

What sits where

Crown Melbourne runs three hotels on the same stretch of river: Crown Towers, Crown Metropol and Crown Promenade. Crown Towers is the one at the top of the range, and the one this site covers. It shares its address with the casino, the Palladium ballroom, a long row of restaurants on Crown Riverwalk and the eight gas towers that send fireballs over the promenade at night. The hotel has its own lobby, its own bar in that lobby (TWR), and a cluster of guest facilities on Level 3: the Crystal Club, the indoor pool and gym, Crown Spa and Koko.

Crown's room pages are unusually specific about size and, for four categories, about height. A Deluxe room is placed on levels 5 to 18; a Premier Twin on levels 19 to 28; a Studio on level 8 or above. Level 29 holds Horizon, an events space. Outside the front door

The tower stands on the river side of Whiteman Street. Crown Riverwalk runs along its base with Bellevue Bar & Terrace, Bistro Guillaume, Spice Temple, Rockpool Bar & Grill and others facing the water. Tram routes 96, 109 and 12 stop at Casino/MCEC (stop 124A); route 58 stops at Casino/Southbank (stop 115). Southern Cross Station, where SkyBus arrives from Melbourne Airport, is on the same tram lines. The arrival page has the details and the map.

On most evenings the gas brigades fire on the hour. In October and November the first show is at 20:00; from 1 December it moves to 21:00. The last fire is at midnight from Sunday to Thursday and at 1am on Friday and Saturday. Total fire ban days in Victoria's Central Region stop them altogether.
